Uh-huh. Shut my mouth. Biscuits and gravy. Now we’re talking serious Southern comfort food. Not for those counting calories, mind you. But sometimes, you just have to splurge.

Now, you know what biscuits are, right? (For our British readers, realize this isn’t your term.) They should be flaky, made with buttermilk. Then comes the important part – the gravy. Some folks prefer simple cream or white gravy, but that’s just dull. The really good stuff has browned sausage crumbled in.

Writer and cook Steve-Anna Stephens put it this way: “If there is one true expression of Southern love on a plate, it’s homemade buttermilk biscuits and gravy.” If you need a little help, here’s her recipe. It’ll make you want to smack your grandma. (For our British readers…oh, never mind.)
