Rev up your DeLorean time machine, take it up to exactly 88 miles per hour, kick in the 1.21 gigawatts of plutonium power, and let’s go back to 1985 to remember Back to the Future, one of the most enjoyable movies of all time. Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd as Doctor Emmett Brown, perfectly cast and expertly directed by Robert Zemeckis.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen the movie, but certain scenes remain firmly in my memory, the way they do in favorite films. Lea Thompson thinking Marty’s name was “Calvin Klein”…Biff demeaning Marty’s dad George McFly in the soda shop…the skateboard chase ending in manure…Marty playing rock star at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance…and of course, the ending: “Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need roads.”

Although Back to the Future only won one Academy Award (Sound Effects Editing), it was the top-grossing film of the year because people loved it. And the British film magazines Empire and Total Film both ranked it in the top 100 movies of all time.
