The Naked Gun

Leslie Nielsen was a dramatic actor who made a seamless tradition to broad comedy. Uploaded by mt.search.bipmedia.com.

Ah, Leslie Nielsen as Detective Frank Drebin. One of the most brilliant and surprising casting choices in movie history helped produce three very funny movies: The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!, The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear, and The Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult.

How old are these movies now? Well, O.J. Simpson was in them, and he was a good guy. The Naked Gun films were the brainchild of the zany creative team of Jerry Zucker, Jim Abrahams, and David Zucker. These guys never met a pun they didn’t like.  For example:

Frank: It’s the same old story. Boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl finds boy, boy forgets girl, boy remembers girl, girls dies in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Year’s Day.
Jane: Goodyear?
Frank: No, the worst.

Vincent Ludwig: Cuban?
Frank: No, Dutch-Irish. My father was from Wales.

And I can’t let this post go without mentioning the scene in which Frank Drebin’s microphone is inadvertently activated while he’s in the bathroom. One of the longest laugh-out-loud scenes in movie history.
