Braces aren't just for kids anymore. Adults get them for both bite issues and cosmetics. Uploaded by indyortho.blogspot.com.

Whoa, where did this selection come from? America certainly isn’t the only country in the world that has embraced the medical and cosmetic benefits of orthodontics, but no country in the history of the world has had so many people with such beautiful teeth. It’s a relatively modern phenomenon, but a welcome one we’ve almost taken for granted.

From what I can gather, orthodontics has only been accessible to the general public since about 1950, though definitely there were forms of braces long before then. People had them placed on their teeth primarily to fix bite issues and the like, and of course, that’s still a primary usage. But now, having braces to get cosmetically straight and attractive teeth is almost as much a part of childhood as Little League. (Though a lot more expensive.)

Like most everything else in modern life, technology is improving the experience of wearing braces. Today they’re lighter, less visible, and often need to be on for a shorter amount of time. It won’t be long until “metal mouths” are a thing of the past, and beautiful smiles take their place. Viva orthodontics! Viva beautiful smiles!
